This is the first project that I've done in a long while that features no human figures! Usually they are what keep me interested in a piece. However this is a project I've been daydreaming about doing for a long time. Flying sea vessels in miniature!
Here is the first one. It's my take on a WWII era fantastical aircraft.
I couldn't resist a classic Simpsons reference.
Hey there blimpy boy. Flying in the sky so fancy free.
Unfortunately, I am not one of those artists that are their toughest critic. Occasionally, usually due to lack of sleep, I will have a moment of clarity where I will see some of my poorer work for what it is. This inability to see things clearly consistently is frightening, and one of the reasons I don't think I would ever get a tattoo. I can't even tell if clothes fit on me until I've already taken them home.
My big sister is not like that. She is decisive. She gets tats. For her latest she had something very specific in mind.
She had this one on her wrist, but wanted a matching collumn on the other wrist that was crumbling.
So after much back and forth, she settled with this version.
I wasn't able to be there, but she was awesome and took pictures for me!
I'm amazed at how close the tattoo artist was able to get to my original. I have some pretty scary images engrained in my head of botched tattoos.
All done! YAY! No going back now. You've got my art on your skin f o r e v e r.
Illustration Friday's word of the week is "tail." This guy was inspired by a sketch that I had done over the summer. I've been high on mythical beasts for a while now and I'm going to ride that for as long as it can possibly take me in my personal work.
My latest assignment is to create a hypothetical ad campaign for Macintosh's icloud. Their selling points are storing, saving, retrieving and securing your documents. One thing that scares people off is trusting a big corporation, like Macintosh, with all of their private information. Macintosh could use a friendly face.
A friendly face that stores, saves, retrieves and secures? Why, it's your friendly neighborhood icloud man!
With many icloud Man adventures in mind, I decided to make this puppet 100% posable and with 2 expressions for starters.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases
Who redeems your life from destruction
Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies
